Stowe, Vermont is a major resort town in north-central Vermont. First chartered by New Hampshire Governor Benning Wentworth in 1763, Stowe was settled in 1794. A saw and grist mill was built at the falls of the Little River in 1796, though early industry was limited. With the 1833 establishment of the Green Mountain Inn, Stowe began to develop a tourist industry. Today, Stowe offers world-class skiing on Mount Mansfield, Vermont's highest peak.
