Francestown NH Community Profile & History
Francestown, New Hampshire named for Francis Deering Wentworth, wife of New Hampshire Governor John Wentworth, Francestown, New Hampshire was formerly home to a high-quality soapstone quarry which was mined until the 1890's. The town is situated on the Second New Hampshire Turnpike, the only highway that runs from Boston to Vermont, which once collected a toll of one cent per mile from passing carriages and wagons.
