Chichester, New Hampshire located just east of Loudon, is a small town with a population of 2236 (2000 Census). Chichester was established in 1727 by Governor John Wentworth, along with several surrounding towns such as Epsom, Bow, Barnstead, Canterbury, and Gilmanton. Chichester was named to honor Thomas Pelham Holles, Duke of Newcastle and Earl of Chichester, England, an influential politician during the 18th century who had a great deal to do with the interactions between England and the American colonies.
