Topsham ME Community Profile & History
Topsham, Maine is a small town on the Cathance and Androscoggin Rivers in southern Maine. Settled in 1717 and incorporated in 1764, Topsham began life as a mill town, with early industries including a watch factory, a pitchfork factory, two tanneries, two feldspar mills, a marble works and a shingle-manufacturing business. Today, Topsham is one of Maine's fastest-growing communities, with renewed commercial growth and a desirable location near Interstate 95 among its key assets. The Topsham Fair Mall offers a number of shops, while the Topsham Mill has recently been renovated to house a restaurant and other establishments. Topsham also offers an abundance of parks and protected land, including the 230-acre Cathance River Preserve and Watershed and the Bradley Pond Farm Preserve, which features two and a half miles of trails for hiking and cross-country skiing.
