Lyman ME Community Profile & History

Lyman, Maine is a small town in southwestern Maine. Settled in 1767, Lyman was originally incorporated under the name of Coxhall in 1780. In 1803 the town was renamed Lyman in honor of Theodore Lyman, Esquire.

The village of Goodwins Mills was a site of early industry, with the town's earliest known mill erected in 1782 and almost continuously operated until a fire destroyed it in 1947.

Lyman remains predominantly rural and residential in nature today. Just 10 minutes from I-95, Lyman is easily accessible from major cities along the coasts of Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. A preserve of small-town life within reach of several major cities and Maine's beautiful coastline, Lyman offers the best of New England past and present.
