Medfield MA Community Profile & History

Medfield, Massachusetts is a historic suburban town on an important crossing point of the Charles River valley leading to the western interior of the state. Located on a rugged upland watershed area and the adjacent river meadow, Medfield was the site of major native settlements and early European settlements, although the latter were almost completely destroyed during the King Philip wars.

The early economic staples of Medfield were agriculture and cattle raising with some dairy and orchards. The town gradually evolved from a front line frontier town to a moderately prosperous rural town with little development outside of farming and grazing.

Medfield has always been noted for its diverse natural beauty. Many areas of the town have views of natural wooded preserves, rolling hills and sweeping fragrant meadows bordering the Charles River.

Today, Medfield is a residential community that boasts a fine tradition of excellent schools, an efficient police and fire department, and public access to many recreational areas. Foremost among recent developments is the restoration and preservation of several 18th and 19th century buildings near the center of town. With a convenient location just outside Boston, a thriving local economy, and an illustrious natural and cultural lansdcape, Medfield remains a wonderful place to live and work.
