Killingworth CT Community Profile & History

Killingworth, Connecticut is a town in south-central Connecticut, just ten miles from the state's coast on Long Island Sound. First settled in 1663, the area was originally known as Homonoscitt. In 1667 the settlement was designated a town and named Kenilworth, and by the middle of the 18th century changes in usage had altered the name slightly to Killingworth. In 1838 the southern portion of the town was partitioned off by the General Assembly and incorporated as the Town of Clinton, while the northern portion retained the name of Killingworth.

Today, Killingworth is primarily residential in nature and serves as a bedroom community for the nearby cities of New Haven and Hartford. A classic New England town within easy reach of the city and the beach, Killingworth offers plentiful recreational and cultural opportunities for residents and visitors alike.
