Harwinton CT Community Profile & History
Harwinton, Connecticut is located in Litchfield County within the Connecticut River and Housatonic watersheds. The name Harwinton comes from a combination of Hartford and Windsor. These two towns administered the territory before it was incorporated into a town. At one time there was manufacturing in the town although today it is primarily a residential community. Principal industries are agriculture, retail services, landscaping, construction and tool and die.
Residents are encouraged to use the Conservation Area and the Charlotte Ryan Playground. There are great places to hike and picnic. The pond will be stocked for fishing, and three tennis courts are located here. The Harwinton Recreation Department is committed to providing and improving recreational services for all members of our community. The Senior Center is the site of a growing number of activities and programs and the Harwinton Youth Sports Association sponsors instructional and competitive sports programs for boys and girls including micro-soccer for grades K-1, a winter basketball program for grades 2-12, Spring Baseball and Spring Softball for ages 7-15.
