Hampton CT Community Profile & History
Hampton, Connecticut is a small town in the Windham Region of northeastern Connecticut. Originally made up of lands shared by the towns of Pomfret and Windham, Hampton was incorporated in 1786. Through its length runs the Nipmuck Trail, used by Nipmuck and Mohegan Indians before the arrival of migrants, mostly from Massachusetts, in 1709. Hampton's meeting house, built in 1754 and altered in 1838, is the second oldest Congregational edifice in Connecticut which has been in continuous use. Just an hour from Providence, Hartford, and Connecticut's scenic coast on Long Island Sound, Hampton remains an unspoiled rural community today.
