Easton CT Community Profile & History
Easton, Connecticut was settled in 1639 and incorporated in 1845. Commercial entities are limited to two general stores, a few gas stations and produce stands. The town is abundant in recreational facilities and activities for both the winter and the warmer months.
Easton's population is affluent and educated. Easton's public schools are excellent. It has been home to Helen Keller, Bellamy Partridge, Hume Cronyn and the late Jessica Tandy, in addition to many other celebrities.
Approximately one-half of the town's property is devoted to pristine reservoirs and 7,500 acres of wooded open space watershed, all of which is owned by the local hydraulic company. Easton allows one-acre and three-acre zoning for all properties. Land use is restricted to residential and agricultural purposes only. Comfortable contemporary homes nestle side by side with vintage farmhouses, surrounded by the classic New England landscape. The town is considered ideal horse country and many ranches dot the countryside.
