Burlington CT Community Profile & History
Burlington, Connecticut is a scenic hill town, rural in nature, situated at the foot of the Berkshires and bordered by the Farmington River. The basis of early economy in Burlington was timber, but in the middle of the 19th century promising copper deposits were discovered and an industrial base in mining flourished for several decades.
Burlington is home to the State of Connecticut Fish Hatchery, Mountain Meadows Airport ( formally Johnnycake Airport) and the Nepaug Reservoir. Almost 50% of the land in the town is owned by three public water supply companies and the State of Connecticut. Burlington has an excellent educational system (Regional School District #10 with the Town of Harwinton) and an excellent recreational program.
