Beacon Falls CT Community Profile & History
Beacon Falls, Connecticut is one of the smallest towns in the county and next to Ansonia, is the youngest. Beacon Falls is bisected by the Naugatuck River. The area, an Indian camping ground on which many relics such as arrowheads have been found, was first settled by colonists from Derby in 1678.
The town was incorporated in 1871 on lands from each of the bordering towns: Bethany, Naugatuck, Oxford, and Seymour. Beacon Falls' principle industries include agriculture, warehouse storage and manufacture of plastic molding and small hardware. Beacon Falls was named after Beacon Hill in Boston, Massachusetts, which historians say was a lookout for colonists to signal the movements of hostile enemies.
Today, town officials look to expand opportunities for business growth and development while maintaining the community's storied heritage. Beacon Falls is centrally located and highly accessible. In keeping with the community's rural New England ambiance, the Economic Development Commission has a clear mandate from the townspeople to welcome economic growth that is visually appealing and environmentally sound. A picturesque community at the heart of the Naugatuck Valley, Beacon Falls offers the small-town charm of Connecticut's countryside in tandem with easy access to the economic and cultural resources of the city.
