Cascade-chipita Park, Colorado comprises two unincorporated towns near Colorado Springs. Perched astride the rugged Ute Pass and grouped together for the purposes of the U.S. census, the two communities are otherwise distinct in history and character.
Named for its many waterfalls, Cascade was first established in 1886. In 1889, the Pikes Peak carriage road was constructed from the center of town to the top of Pikes Peak. Once a rough-and-tumble mining town, the community today offers restaurants, cozy bed-and-breakfasts and the popular Santa's Workshop.Originally inhabited by Ute Indians, the village of Chipita Park is named for the wife of the great Chief Ouray. Still largely rural in character, the community offers expanses of mountain wildnerness, historic Victorian homes, and a relaxed pace of life, all within a short drive of the city.
