Black Forest CO Community Profile & History
Black Forest, Colorado is named for an unusually high concentration of Ponderosa Pines that inspired comparisons to the namesake forest in Germany. Encompassing some 200,000 acres just north of Colorado Springs, the community remains largely rural in character despite rapid growth. At roughly 7,000 feet in elevation, the town abounds in wildlife, with horses a common sight along the neighborhood's roads. The commercial center near the corner of Shoup and Black Forest roads is home to a community center, fire station, churches and a country store. Well within reach of the state capital in Denver, the community is nestled amidst the snowy peaks of the Rocky Mountains. Neighboring communities include the first-rate resort towns of Manitou Springs, Cascade-Chipita Park, and Palmer Lake.
A growing center for high-tech and defense industries in the American West, the Colorado Springs area is home to the United States Air Force Academy, Fort Carson, Peterson Air Force Base and several information technology firms, all of which provide thousands of jobs and a strong economic base. In fact, the region was recently identified as one of the nation's ten fastest-growing economies. Centrally located at the heart of Colorado's Front Range Urban Corridor, the area offers an outstanding quality of life, stunning natural scenery, easy accessibility to the major cities of the American southwest and some of the nation's most desirable real estate. A growing site for relocation and new residential development, Colorado Springs remains a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family.
