San Luis AZ Community Profile & History
San Luis, Arizona is one of the fastest-growing cities in the state of Arizona. Situated near Yuma in the southwestern corner of the state, San Luis offers growing economic opportunities, excellent cultural and recreational attractions and gorgeous natural scenery. Retail trade, agriculture and manufacturing form a large portion of the local economy. Founded upon the opening of a United States-Mexico border crossing station in 1930, San Luis serves as an industrial and cultural hub at the intersection of the two countries, a major site for international trade and commerce and a thriving edge city in the greater Yuma region.
Visitor attractions within a 30 minute drive of San Luis include the old Territorial Prison, Fort Yuma and the 16th century Fort Thomas Mission. The Laguna, Imperial and Morelos Dams and the California sand dunes are also nearby. Residents and tourists alike enjoy fishing, water skiing and swimming at the many lakes along the Colorado River.
Retail trade, agriculture and manufacturing form a large portion of the local economy, which benefits tremendously from continued movement and trade between the United States and Mexico. Another significant segment is the light industry located on both sides of the border. San Luis is an excellent site for labor intensive manufacturing and assembly plants. A new 40 acre privately owned industrial park and 40 acre commercial area are currently under construction in north San Luis along Highway 95.
