Lake Havasu City AZ Community Profile & History
Lake Havasu City, Arizona is located on the beautiful Colorado River in northwestern Arizona. A popular year-round tourist destination, Lake Havasu City offers a comfortable climate, bountiful opportunities for outdoor recreation and a close-knit atmosphere.
Lake Havasu City was established in 1964 by Robert P. McCulloch as a planned community around the Lake Havasu reservoir, situated along Arizona's western border with California.. It was incorporated in 1978. The present city grew around an old mining town established in the early 20th century. Popular tourist attractions include the London Bridge, which crosses an 8ft (2.4m) deep man-made canal that leads from Lake Havasu (on the Colorado River) to Thompson Bay. It was bought for US$2.5 million from the City of London when the bridge was replaced in 1968. The bridge was disassembled, and the marked stones were shipped to Lake Havasu City and reassembled for another US$7 million. It opened in October 1971.
Lake Havasu City provides a highly attractive living environment that is compatible with a variety of tastes and life styles. Residents enjoy a pleasant climate, attractive housing opportunities, numerous opportunities for fishing and water sports, several entertainment venues, and a small-town environment ideal for raising a family.
