Goodyear AZ Community Profile & History

Goodyear, Arizona is a small city in the Phoenix region and one of the fastest growing cities in Arizona. Situated in the foothills of the Estrella Mountains, Goodyear was established in 1917 as a cotton manufacturing center for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. The city experienced a burst of early prosperity when cotton shortages drove production during the two world wars. Though the cotton industry declined after World War II, Goodyear experienced renewed growth when the Goodyear Aerospace Corporation was established in 1949. Just 20 minutes west of downtown Phoenix, Goodyear offers a wide variety of cultural and recreational opportunities, with hiking trails, golf courses and majestic desert views among its many attractions.
